This is OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and these thoughts, images and rituals aren’t your fault.
Your mind assesses these thoughts/images, which everyone has, to be far more important than they are which causes you to obsess about them and feel guilty and ashamed.
You may have rituals you do that started out small and have grown to take a lot of time and energy. In spite of your best efforts to not do them, or of others trying to get you to stop, it can feel as if you’re driven to do them; like if you don’t do them something bad will happen or you become so anxious you can’t help yourself.
Rituals and reassurance can make you feel better in the short term but they take a lot of time and can get in the way of living your life. They also reinforce the behavior, thought or image so doing them actually works against you.
There’s nothing wrong with you
People often think they’re abnormal for thinking or acting this way or they believe this is just how it is. This isn’t true. OCD is treatable and I have experience helping people reduce or eliminate their troubling thoughts and time consuming rituals so they can enjoy life again.
